Proper care is important to ensure that the ribbons stay beautiful and can be reused for many projects and events in the future. Here’s some tips on caring for your silk ribbons.
First, we recommend handwashing your silk ribbon in cold water with a gentle detergent. We love The Laundress for their gentle care products. Just be sure to avoid bleach and fabric softeners as they can damage the silk fibers.
Next, gently squeeze out any excess water and lay the ribbon flat to dry. And if you need to iron your ribbon, make sure to use a low heat setting and (when possible) a pressing cloth to help protect the fabric. The Laundress makes a fantastic Crease Release spray that you can use right before ironing. Just use a small amount as over saturation may cause discolouration.
When you're not using your silk ribbon, store it carefully to prevent wrinkles and damage. Simply wrap it back around the original wooden spool to keep its shape.
